Letter from the Team:
Dear Reader,
Although things may seem like they’re going back to “normal,” it’s clear that something is different. This shouldn’t surprise anyone as we were isolated for the past two years and witnessed unprecedented events after unprecedented events. And this will change you. It will make you re-evaluate your priorities, your future, your life.
It made us re-evaluate ourselves. Ampersand underwent some changes with new positions and brought on a brand new team. We re-examined our submission policies and re-vamped the website. We’re all getting used to this new normal. We’re all doing the best we can.
For our fifth volume, we wanted to be bold and explore a new direction for the design. We noticed that many of the submissions we received were somber and sorrowful. Inspired by this sentiment, we decided to create a magazine with black pages. Then, we decided to divide the magazine into three sections based on the common themes we noticed: Introspection, Relationships, and Hope. For many of us, this past year allowed us to reflect upon ourselves, our relationship with the people around us, and our hopes and dreams.
We hope that the works in this magazine connect with you and inspire you. We hope you know that you’re doing the best you can.
Sincerely,
The & Team
